228. Real Genius

228. Real Genius (right click or click)

Mark makes his dramatic return to talk about this seminal coming of age 80’s comedy that most people probably don’t like because it lacks a smarmy unlikeable Matthew Broderickesque character. Oh wait he’s sort of the bad guy in this movie. Real Genius and Revenge of the Nerds paved the way for the society we have today where not being a nerd makes you a social pariah.

224. The Hunter

224. The Hunter (right click OR click)

Mark and Ian talk about Steve McQueen’s final film.  He plays a bounty hunter which sounds cool.  In the end the movie is sort of a mess of comedy, action, and drama based on the life of a real bounty hunter.

221. Silver Streak

221. Silver Streak (right click OR click)

Despite being set mostly on a train this movie is not as good as an anime series called Baccano! could be that 70’s era train travel isn’t as cool as 30’s?  That’s not really a question though is it? This is the movie with Gene Wilder and hints of Richard Pryor though honestly there is far more Pryor in Superman 3.

Batman revisited (right click OR click)

Since word just dropped on a release date for Batman 3 (fingers crossed it’s 3D (not really what do I look like …?  okay sound like… okay well yeah 3D is dumb we all know that Roger Ebert thanks))).  I decided to post a bonus podcast taken from one of the many Zack, Blaine, and Ian discussions that don’t make it into a regular podcast.  Enjoy, this has much more Commando discussion then Batman though.

216. LadyHawke (right click OR click)

Mark and Ian talk about the Donner disaster (too harsh?  probably) LadyHawke (pronounced “lady” “Hockey”).  Though the film has its problems, it does look quite good in places.  And that’s probably because they went to real places to shoot it.  Thumbs down to green screen environments.

213. The Burbs (right click OR click)

Ian and Mark talk about this Joe Dante film from the late 80’s.  A simpler time when Tom Hanks movies were  a little more fun than they are now.  Though at its heart this film is quite dark.

Watch out Tom, that guy was in The Last Unicorn
