Podcast 018 pt. 2 (right click, save as)We continue our discussion about “Andersonesque” movies including Noah Baumbach’s Kicking and Screaming and The Squid and the Whale. Zack and our guest Blaine talk about Terry Zwigoff’s Bad Santa and Ghost World. Then we do our pitches for self aware ironic drama comedies about failures.
podcast 018 pt. 1We review Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited and begin a discussion about Anderson’s films and films we feel deal with similar themes of self aware ironic comedy, etc. Blaine wins the gold star for this one as he is very prepared with notes and research after watching most of Anderson’s films prior to the recording. Then for a few minutes Zack feels like talking about Love Actually. We’ll return to these offbeat themes and talk about Terry Zwigoff and the Coen Brothers in part 2.

For our Halloween episode we talk about monster movies. We review 30 Days of Night. Zack talks about how the film measures against the graphic novel and our guest
Blaine talks about how it felt like a zombie movie. Then we talk about a handful of other monster movies including George Romero’s Land of the Dead, Silver Bullet, John Carpenter’s The Thing, Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive, Ridley Scott’s Alien, and the Mel Brook’s comedy/monster movie Young Frankenstein.
Blaine points out that my pitch is vaugely like FLCL episode 6 and Zack’s is like an episode of Scary Door from Futurama. Then we philosophize about what it is people like in monster movies: the violence, the voyeurism?
